Budnikowsky is the leading retail chain for health, beauty and household products in Hamburg and the surrounding area. With its stores soon to number more than 160, it has a significant regional presence.
In 2003, Budnikowsky opened Europe’s most technologically advanced logistics centre in Hamburg-Allermöhe, featuring approximately 20,000 pallet bays and 57,000 containers for goods.
To ensure optimal service to the branches, all goods received are sorted into high racks by a conveyor system. Supply to each individual branch is ensured by employees making daily inventory reports. In late 2009, Budnikowsky stopped using the move-by-move exchange of Euro pallets.
Instead, suppliers are afforded access to the pan-European POOLING PARTNERS network of PAKi Logistics and can request exchange pallets by the truck-load at the location of their choice.
Pooling offers tremendous simplification for all parties involved. Budnikowsky benefits from lean processes and fast unloading times. Their suppliers have additional loading space they can sell.
PAKi has provided the company with support in the introduction of modern IT-controlled processes. A paperless, account-based booking system is used today to process pallets.
